Welcome to the home of Paralympic Swimmer, Fran Williamson. Fran has been a member of the Great Britain swim team since her international debut in 2001. Here you can keep up with all her Latest News and Blog for all information on up coming events and results.
Also, if you are a regular visitor (and don't see my update posts on Twitter) you may not see all the bits'n'bobs that are hidden away. So check out the What's New Here Page to see what's been added recently!
In her 10 years of representing GB, Fran has racked up an impressive array of medals, including 12-world championship and 6 Paralympic medals. As the current World Champion in the 50m backstroke (a title she first claimed in 2006 and then again in 2010), Fran is looking to add to her international repertoire of titles in London 2012.
In her time as a GB team member, Fran has competed at no less than three World Championships and two Paralympic games (Athens, 2004 and Beijing, 2008). In addition, at the time of writing, Fran is preparing to compete in her second European Championships, which are due to take place in Berlin in July 2011.
Having spent much of her teenage years, and twenties, as part of a very inspirational team of athletes, Fran has gained a vast amount of knowledge and insight into the world of disability sport. This is a valuable, uncommon, attribute to have and one that Fran hopes she can share and put to use in the future.
Along with her sporting achievements, which she holds close to her heart, Fran has also put exceptional effort into her education. Although she found the mix of training and study very difficult in school and college, Fran pushed through and later gained a First Class degree in Social Policy, from Anglia Ruskin University. Not content with this, she is currently in the process of completing a Masters Degree in Disability Studies, with Leeds University, under some of the top disability writers in the country.
With all these accolades to her name, Fran is excited when she is able to share her unique knowledge and experiences to raise the profile of Paralympic sport, and disability issues in general. This can be at a personal level with interested members of the public or by talking to local and national charities or businesses. Also, Fran has a great passion for trying to encourage young disabled people to take up sport and realise their potential.
